Classes are held at

We offer tailored courses and workshops for 6 – 8 students per group, Monday to Friday from 10.00 a.m. – 4.00 p.m.
Cost per student, per day is £35.00 (most art and craft materials are supplied by Minerva).
All courses are generally structured and follow a syllabus but can be tailored to suit individual requirements. Students will progress through different levels and shall receive a Minerva ‘Certificate of Skills’ on completion of each level.
What can be made?
Coil Pots – circular or oval pots or vases. Slab Pots – Square shaped pots, rectangular pots or squared vases. Relief Slabs – plaques or hanging planters. Animals – sculpted. Brooches & Badges. Learn to throw - mugs, vases and bowls, and decorate them. Try your own ideas – whatever you have in mind, having tried some of these techniques, or can start at any stage if you are familiar with some of the skills. We will encourage you to do your own ideas at any time within the course.
Silk Screen Printing
An introduction to silk screen printing including the preparation of screens, basic paper screen printing, selecting fabric, paper or clothing for your chosen design, working on your design, transferring your design on to silk screen. Adventures in printing with your own creation!
General Art and Craft
Within this course, students will experience a number of art and craft techniques/skills, including, collage, painting and drawing, felt making, paper making, stencilling, tie dye, date related themes eg Chinese New Year and Halloween, Christmas etc, working from patterns in nature, photographing the world around us.
This work is inclusive and results will be by outcome, determining the level achieved.
Students will make choices about the piece of furniture they would like to work on in consultation with the tutor (limited storage space in the building means items cannot be too large). Remodelling, re-upholstering or polishing. Your own designs or ideas, colours and finishes.
Introduction to silk painting
Choose your silk and dyes. Experiment with colour. Plan your design. Silk painting of your chosen design.
Introduction to tie-dye
Learn to tie in different ways: bull’s-eye, stripe, diagonal, dotty, wavy & marble. Choose your own fabric and dye and learn how to mix. With a t-shirt or other item of your choice, design your own pattern and start to tie dye. Complete the dyeing process and then wash and dry the garment. The course is flexible and the pace will be set by individual skill and capability. You will also learn how to colour mix, untying skills, re-tying, dyeing with a new colour and using different fabrics.
There are facilities available for those who wish to learn sewing skills, either by hand or machine. We can also make cushions, wall hangings, interior designs and tie dyed fabrics to upholster.
Use your skills to produce something special!
Courses run for ten weeks.
We're very happy to work with students on something they bring in from home (a piece of furniture or similar). If a student would like to do something different we can supply the materials (at a small cost). The first week of the course is a taster session to help- students decide what they would like to do. For the following week the materials will be supplied.
